This week in our class has been very busy, even though it's a four day week. Don't forget next week is conferences. I am excited to share your child's successes. See the comments below to find out what we have been doing!
In science we have been learning about cells and our body system. We learned about what is in the cells including the nucleus, cytoplasym, cell membrane, cellwall, mitochondrion, chloroplast, the vacuole, vesicle and chromosome. Those all are also called organelles.Cells make up tissue and muscles to keep your body healthy. We made models to represent cells. We also talked about the digestive system and how it works. We learned as well about the organ system and how it functions. One of the amazing experiments we did was looking at different cells through microscopes.Science in 5th grade is extordinarily fun!
For specials we have been doing art and book buddies. In art we did a tree scenery and a moonlight midnight paper. With book buddies we help them find good books for their grade level. We have made corn patterns and some people made scare crows. Our class did an explorer simulation as well.
Alyssa's favorite thing was art the tree scenery because it was really fun.Krysta's favorite thing was helping my book buddy because I love helping little kids. Lauren's favorite activey was all the arts and crafts because she loves to create. Adam's favorite was the moonlight midnight because it looks 3D.
Math tricks: A few weeks ago we learned about Factor rainbow, when you factor a number to get the number your factoring. Another skill we learned is a rounding hill. A rounding hill is when you make a hill and you have 0-4 and on the left you have 5-9. We also learned CUSL(circle the question, underline the important parts, solve the problem, and label the answer.)
Basic Math Knowledge: Every week we have a BMK. A BMK is a basic skill quiz, and we get tested on it every week.
Math Journal:We acquired DMSCBR (divide,multiply,subtract,check,bring down,and repeat/remainder)
In Social Studies were learned about Native Americans and Elections.
Native Americans- We studied diffrent tribes and we wrote about them. After that we typed them on glogster. We made models of the tribes houses. Some people made clothing models. Some people also dressed like their tribe.
Elections- We have elections to pick our next persident. First you have to vote and to vote and to vote you have to be 18 years old or older. Also you have to be an offical american citizen to vote. There are many canidates and we have to narrow them to 2 people, the canidate and the president. Then we vote again. The person that wins the election is the new president.
Good Morning America! Today we are in Ms. Nuss' class talking about Daily 5 and literature circles.
In Daily 5 we have 5 different stations. We get to decide which one we want to do. But you have to think smart so you can get your whole chart filled up by the end of the week.
Now we are here with Steven to talk about Daily 5. He says, "It is extremely hard to fill up the whole chart by the end of the week."
This is way more fun than just plain old reading gruops. Now we are here with Bennett who says, "Reading groups are way more boring than Daily 5."
Now we are going on about lit circles. LIt circles are there to help kids read good books and understand them. In our classes lit circles we are readin gthe book Love Ruby Lavender. This book is about a girl named Ruby who rescues chickens with her grandmother. One day her grandmother moves to Hawaii. Now Ruby has to deal with her problems by herself.
In Lit Circles we each have our own jobs. Every Wednesday and Friday we have our meetings. During this time we have to have our jobs done and a certain amount of chapters done.
Now for a quote from the team. "This is very fun."
In math we have been learning about angles and measuring degrees with protractors. Also we have been learning about how degrees go into different polygons. We have been doing BMKs or Basic Math Knowledge. Those have really got us going in math!Math may not be everyone`s favorite subject but this class ROCKS at math!
